Syed Mustafa Siraj was a most prominent story writer in Bengali. He was presented the Sahitya Academy Award for his novel Aleek Manush. It was translated into Urdu, Tamil and Dogri. He was regularly write articles for the magazine Kashtipathar. It was edited by Amarendra Chakrabarty. He was spent in the village at Khosbaspur in the district of Birbhum in his childhood. He was a nature lover. He wrote many story in the base of village life. He wrote most of rural theme base short stories, novels, Detective stories and children’s literature. Some of his popular detective stories which was written for children, the Nibedita Sen, Delhi University professor translated into English. Colonel Niladri Sarkar is a most popular character of siraj in Bengal. It was called The Colonel Investigates.
