Bengali prominent author Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay has written the Bengali essay  Swadesh O Sahitya. The Swadesh O Sahitya is one of the most popular essay book of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay in West Bengal, India and Bangladesh. He was a Bengali novelist of 20th Century in India. He was born at Debanandapur in Hooghly district in India on 15th September,1876.

His most popular books are Arakhaniya Bamuner Meye, Bipradas, Birajbou, Baikunther will, Bordidi, Grihadaha, Chandranath, Charitrohin, Dattya, Dena Pouana, Debdas, Noba-Bidhan, Palli Samaj, Pather Dabi, Pandit Moshay and Parineeta. Shesh Prasna – (The Final Question) 1931, Shesher Parichoy (Incomplete), Shubhoda, Srikanta all Volumes in Four Parts (1917, 1918,1927,1933).

While Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay was in Rangoon, his first novel, Baradidi, was published in book form In 1314 (Bangla) and it was published serially in Bharati Patrika on September 1913 and as book on 1914.

Then novels like Parineeta, Pandit Mashai, Palli samaj, Chandranath, Boikunther Will, Arakshaniya, Srikanta etc started to be published. Srikantar Bhraman Story was published serially in various journals and on 18 April 1927 the Srikanter Bhraman Kahini’ was published in book form. Mejodidi was published in India in the Bhadra issue of Kartik 1321 (Bengali Year) before it was published in book form. It is a combination of three stories, Majo Didi, Darpa – Churna and Andhare Alo. Then there were seven stories in the book Kashinath. During this time he published Bindur Chele and other stories in Jamuna magazine, then Shorashi. The story book Shorashi was published on August 13, 1927.
The famous essay Narir Mullya (Value of Women) was written under the pseudonym of his sister Anila Devi and was published in book form on 19 March 1924.

He died on 16 January 1938 at the age of 61.
