Ashapurna Devi (Gupta) was a prominent short story writer, Bengali novelist and child literary. She was born at Pataldanga, North Kolkata in India on 8th January, 1909. Her ancestral home was in Begampur village of Hooghly district. Her father Harendranath Gupta was a famous artist and mother Saralasundari Devi was a great book lover. Many of her novels, stories were published in popular newspapers of that time. The Bengali life of the twentieth century, especially the life of ordinary women and the image of humanity was the main theme of her writings. In her personal life she was a mother or a housewife. Her notable work Balaygras was published on 1952, Jog-Biyog, Chapatra, Uttarlipi and Samudra Neel Akash Neel on 1960 in Rachanabali Vol. 1.
She was honored, with a number of literary awards, civilian honors, and honorary doctoral degrees in different universities, including the Jnanpith Award for her novel Pratham Pratishruti and Padma Shree.
Although she did not get education in traditional education. she did not study at any college or university. But literary-reading was the only reality of her life. In the political ideology, the British-hostile stance And in her mind she was a Swadeshi.
