K. C. Nag, the famous mathematician, was born on July 10, 1893, in Nagpara village of Gurap in Hooghly district. He first started his studies in the village school, then in the seventh grade he was admitted to Yajneshwar High School, but he could not study there for long.
He was admitted to Kishanganj High School in the ninth grade. In 1912, he passed the entrance examination in the first class. Then he moved to Kolkata. He was admitted to Ripon College (now Surendra Nath College) in Kolkata in the science department. In 1914, he passed the ISC examination in the first class. He lost his father at a young age. They became human beings under the responsibility of his mother.

His first career started as a teacher in ‘Bhastara Yajneshwar High School’. Within a few days, he left his job and started studying Mathematics and Sanskrit and passed his BA. Then he was appointed as a Mathematics teacher in Kishanganj High School. After staying there for some time, he was appointed as a teacher in Krishnanath Collegiate School, Behrampur. This is where his life changed. His fame as a Mathematics teacher spread all over Bengal. Ashutosh Mukherjee, knowing about his fame, appointed him as a Mathematics teacher in Mitra Institution, Bhabanipore. Keshav Chandra Nag remained in this school till the end of his career and retired as the headmaster.
Many students came in his teaching career who enriched Bengal. His students were Hemanta Mukherjee, Arjun Sengupta, Tarun Banerjee, Subhash Mukherjee and Siddharth Shankar Roy. Siddharth Shankar Roy became the Chief Minister of Bengal.

Inspired by Kalidas Roy, he published his book Naba Patiganit in 1952. Apart from this book, it became very popular among students in Bangladesh. Especially among students of the fifth and sixth grades. Later, this Naba Patiganit book was also recognized as a school textbook. He published a book called ‘Anker Sahayika Matric Mathematics’. This book also became very popular. He wrote ‘Pak Mathematics’ according to the Pakistan Board syllabus. A Braille version has also been published for the visually impaired. American Bard Schneider, a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, said about KC Nag’s books – ‘The theoretical treatment of the subject in these books was superior to that found in similar books in the USA’.
