Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote the famous novel Kamalakanter Daptar. He was a famous novelist of India. He was also well known as a journalist. He realized the tragic plight of the countrymen in the then subjugated India and the severe oppression, exploitation and deprivation they were being subjected to by the foreign rulers, and all these aspects were highlighted in his literature. At that time he started publishing Bangadarshan Patrika in 1872 AD. He was written a famous novel the Kamalakanter Daptar, caused a great stir among the readers of Bengal. His Bangadarshan published articles on literature, science, philosophy, poetry, sociology, theology, history, economics, etc. As a result, his journal received a great response in the social and literary life of Bengal.

His patriotic novels such as Kamalakanter Daptar, Rajsingha, Ananda Math, Devi Chowdhurani, Sitaram etc were published at that time and the books based on those novels caused a stir all over the country. His song Bandemataram made its debut as the national anthem of India. He wrote 14 novels. Also his notable books are Science Mystery, Folk Mystery, Krishnacharitra, Bankim Upanyas Samagra, Lalita, Deenbandhu Mitra’s Biography, Theology, Kapalkundala, Srimadbhagavata Gita etc.

He was born on 27 June 1838 in the village of Kathalpara in the Naihati area of ​​the 24-Parganas district. His father Yadav Chandra Chattopadhyay was a prominent man and held the post of Deputy Collector at Medinipur. Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay came to his father’s workplace in Medinipur and was admitted to the Collegiate School and passed with distinction.
He served the government for 23 long years and retired in September 1891. His wife died in 1859 while in Jashore district, now in Bangladesh.
Literary practice started from the first life. In 1865 he published Durgesh Nandini followed by Kapalkundla and Mrinalini. These three novels are the foundations of Bengali novel literature. He died in 1894.
