Shirshendu Mukharjee, a famous presence in the field of Bengali literature, was born on 2nd November, 1935 at Bikrampur, Dhaka of Bangladesh. His father had spent his childhood in Bihar, Bangla and Assam, due to his father being a railway employee. He graduated from Calcutta University and received his Masters degree in Bengali.
His first novel Ghunpoka was published in Desh Patrika. In 1985, he received the Vidyasagar Prize for admirable work in the literature of young adults. His most popular novel Manjamin was awarded the Sahitya Academy Award in 1988. He has also received Anand Purushkar several times. His repetitive work encompasses a vast and varied cache of novels and short stories of all ages. Kagojer Bou (Paper wife), Ashcharjyo Pradeep and Goiner Bakso (jewelry Box) have been transformed into films. In addition to writing, he is an avid reader and an avid fan of the sport. He currently lives in Kolkata with his family.
