Introduction
Georgy Frantsov was a leading scientist who specialized in philosophy, history, scientific communism, and sociology. He was an ardent propagator of Marxism-Leninism, a prominent public and political figure, a skilled journalist, and a man of immense erudition and captivating personality. He possessed encyclopedic knowledge. His broad philosophical perspective on the problems of social development, combined with a party-oriented approach, enabled him to work creatively on many fundamental problems of historical materialism and scientific communism.
He was capable of profound critical analysis of the ideas of contemporary bourgeois sociology. During his lifetime, he helped many young scientists embark on the path of sociological research and the critique of bourgeois sociological concepts. G. P. Frantsov generously shared his knowledge with them. A man of great erudition himself, Frantsov strived to instill in his students a deep dedication to science.
Marxism-Leninism
He was well-known and respected as a public figure, an organizer of scientific activities, and a trainer of personnel. He demonstrated his brilliant personality and sharp intellect in all his positions, including Director of the Institute of International Relations, Head of the Press Department of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rector of the Academy of Social Sciences under the Central Committee of the CPSU, Editor-in-Chief of the World Marxist Review, and Deputy Director of the Institute of Marxism-Leninism under the Central Committee of the CPSU. Above all, G. P. Frantsov was a fighter in the cause of Marxism-Leninism.
His books, pamphlets, and articles constitute a vast and valuable scientific, literary, and journalistic legacy that generated immense interest among a wide readership during his lifetime. This is because his writing was scientifically sound and combined profound philosophical analysis with a pro-Communist Party perspective, as he took an unwavering stance against the reactionary bourgeois and petty-bourgeois tendencies of the time. We see this in his major works and articles in periodicals. Even the latter, however brief and concise, are a blend of his vast scientific knowledge and the excellent skills of a party journalist.
The book containing a large part of his writings is “The Historical Path of Social Thought,” published in 1965. The author himself considered it a summary of his research on the history of social thought, encompassing the entire history of human society and presenting a broad panorama of the dialectics of social thought closely linked to class struggle.
In this book, Frantsov demonstrates his intellectual prowess as a philosopher and historian by providing a profound summary of the pre-history of scientific ideology and showing how progressive thinkers pursued the truth until they reached a fundamental turning point, when the founders of Marxism provided scientific answers to the questions posed by the course of history.
Founders of Marxism
The author shows the revolution that the founders of Marxism brought to sociology, and the crisis of contemporary bourgeois thought, its reactionary and unscientific nature, its rejection of scientific methods in the analysis of social progress, and its theoretical impotence.
The sections of the book dealing with Lenin’s development of Marxist doctrine contain a wealth of specific facts and a scientific analysis of historical events. He shows that Leninism emerged in the struggle against all the ideological and political tendencies of the bourgeoisie and petty-bourgeoisie that were hostile to the working class and the cause of overall historical progress.
Socialist Revolution
By crushing the attempts of our ideological adversaries to diminish the importance of Leninism and confine its experience to regional boundaries, he effectively demonstrates its significance as the banner of social progress throughout the world and the greatness of the world’s first victorious socialist revolution. He accomplished this through a scientific analysis of the main and universal regularities of the socialist revolution. He also showed how the ideas and experiences of the October Socialist Revolution are spreading across the globe and providing an inexhaustible and life-giving source for revolutionary thought and action.
Historical Significance
This book also contains chapters on the historical significance of Marxist-Leninist ideology and its role in the socialist cultural and ideological struggle. Readers of this book will gain extensive knowledge about the history of how the ideas and experiences of the socialist revolution have spread across the globe.
