But many of us have no idea what this culture is like and what its ingredients and materials are. We are satisfied with a dim idea or fantasy mixed with patriotism. But we do not know exactly what the trend of thinking of Bengali or Indian culture of this era is and what is the source of its actions, and how its speed has come along which path, and probably because there is no suitable material at hand, we are not used to discussing suffering.

Who was Meghnad Saha?

In such a situation, some of the intellectual and creative people who have continued this culture as a bearer and bearer for the past four centuries, among them Mr. Ordhendra Coomar Gangopadhyay, an eighty-four-year-old veteran painter and a scholar of art history, respected by the entire Bengali and Indian nation, is the foremost. His long life of eighty-four years is closely associated with the renaissance and artistic expression that is taking place in modern India. In the practice of the progress of science in modern India, the names of Jagadish, Prafulla Chandra Sen, Girishchandra, Ramendrasundar Trivedi , Meghnad Saha, Ramanujan, Krishnan, Chandrasekhar, Venkataraman, Birbal Sahni, etc. cannot be left out, so when we talk about art in modern India, and along with it, the ancient and medieval Indian Abanindranath and Nandalal, along with Ordhendra Coomar Gangopadhyay, become indispensable in judging India’s philosophy and study of art and world art.

Why famous Indian linguist, writer Dr. Suniti Kumar Chattopadhyay in Bengali literature?

Famous Indian linguist, writer Dr. Suniti Kumar Chattopadhyay said, the method or approach or tidiness that he helped to develop in modern Indian art and by which India’s face in art matters in the modern world has shone, we are sitting on the lure of ultra-modernism. The Beatle dance and the twist dance are now making the ancient-Indian dance unpopular, while ‘modern art’ and ‘abstract art’ are trying to destroy the art that expresses the true Siva Sundar inherent in our Indian life.

It is a matter of great pleasure that we are grateful to Ordhendra Gangopadhyay for his long view of the twilight of his life. This book, which Mr. Ordhendra Coomar Ganguly gave to us, is a combination of history and literary creation – he did not write like a professional historian or an autobiographer – he sat down to tell us stories about his long life’s many setbacks and experiences. He has candidly expressed his artistic views of all the artists and other people whom he has seen in life, or with whom he has been intimately associated, and that is why his autobiography has come to a simple and easy and fluent manner, from which real juice has arisen.

There are many other autobiographical books in Bengali such as Vidyasagar’s ‘Asampurna Swarchit Jeevan-Katha’, Maharshi Debendranath Tagore’s ‘Atma-Jivan’, Navin Chandra Sen’s ‘Amar Jeevan’, Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Jivan-Smriti’.  ‘Atmacharit’ by Rajnarayan Bose – besides these authors Gangopadhyay’s ‘Bharat Shilpa O Amar Katha’ will occupy a prominent place. However, as the history of India’s art of this transitional period is inextricably linked, the book’s literary value is also undeniable.
