The poetry book Gitabitan (Akhanda) is written by world poet Rabindranath Tagore. He also composed the melody of each song in this lyric book. Rabindranath Tagore is the national poet of India. He has done classical music, folk music and European music in Bengali. He has also written poems, stories, songs, plays, humorous compositions, short stories, novels, etc., and is also a composer.

He is the only poet in the history of the world whose songs are considered and sung as the national anthems of the two countries. In Bengali literature he is regarded as the epitome of short story. He wrote about 2000 songs, 52 books of poetry and 38 plays. He also wrote 13 novels, 36 essays and 95 short stories. He composed songs that are timely and suitable for every field of human life, which is rare among the poets of the world. Indian classical music, European music and Bengali folk music – these three genres of music, he gave birth to an underlying melody that is Rabindra Sangeet.

Rabindranath Tagore is not only famous for his gem-like contribution to world literature, but also for his profound thinking on human welfare which is reflected in his entire life’s work. In a word, the combination of versatility took place in his colorful long career. He started writing poetry at the age of eight and it was published in a magazine. He wrote the first song, ‘Rabichandra Deepak Jwale’ in 1873 AD. He was the fourteenth child of their parents. She was born in 1861 at Thakurbari in Jorasanko, Calcutta.

He lost his mother when he was just 14 years old. Due to maternal abortion, most of the time she had to be under the rule and proximity of the servants. His writings have been translated into several European languages, including German, English, Dutch, and Spanish.. He especially inspired many of his contemporaries, foreign poets and literary novelists. For him Bangla literature got a place in the court of the world. Towards the end of his life he became very ill and after a long illness he finally passed away at his Jorasanko residence in 1941.
