The writing of the famous storyteller Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay means a silent pain, a strange feeling, a heart-wrenching howl, which fills the hearts of the readers of the world of Bengali literature with pain. He paints a very realistic picture of human life in his writing, a living shadow story which is a unique creation in Bengali literature.
Palli Samaj is such a sensational Bengali novel. The reflection of the so-called zamindari system was seen at that time. The creation of that society at that time is beautifully reflected in this book.
Writer Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay After Bankim Chandra and Rabindranath Tagore, the writer Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay is the brightest astrologer in the sky of Bengali literature. He has conquered the minds of foreign readers by transcending his limited time and land and has attained an epoch-making status in the Bengali readership.

In Bengali novel literature, Saratchandra has taken a new path which has expanded the scope of Bengali fiction and brought in a strange and unprecedented variety. The sensitive heart has gained a unique feature due to its wide range of life-inquiries, keen observation, free-spirited independent attitude, etc., which later controlled the dynamics of Bengali literature to a large extent.
Although all of Saratchandra’s novels and short stories are mainly divided into three categories, familial, social and psychological, at the center of most of his novels is a great question about Bengali society and the internal and external life of the Bengali middle class. We see in the autobiography the subtle complex response of the real state of society to the way men and women control their way of life and sense of life.
We have never seen such a great poet of the sorrows and pains of the Bengali middle class. Some of the best tragedies written by the compassionate Sarat Chandra, based on the tearful life stories of men and women who have been humiliated by the cruel rule of the stupid society, have revealed to us a picture that is faithful to the Bengali society.
The first nine chapters of the novel Palli Samaj were published in a monthly magazine in India. Though he thought of finishing the novel in these nine chapters, the author Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay later wrote ten more chapters which were later published simultaneously in a monthly magazine in India. In 1916, Gurudas Chattopadhyay, the editor of Bharatvarsha, published a book of nineteen chapters.
