Bharat Pathik – Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose:
In the late 19th century, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s father Shri Janakinath Bose left Bangladesh for Orissa and started living in Cuttack as a lawyer. Subhas Chandra Bose was born in this city of Cuttack on 23rd January, Saturday, 1897. His father was the son of the Basu family of Mahinagar, and his mother Prabhavati Devi was the daughter of the Datta Parbar of Hatkhola. He is the ninth child and sixth son of his parents.
Who gave Netaji title to Bose?
Nowadays it is very easy to go from Kolkata to Cuttack. Cuttack can be reached in one night by train from Calcutta, proceeding south along the east coast. The road is very safe, so there is no danger. But years ago the situation was not like this at all. If you go by land in a bullock cart, there is a risk of being caught by thieves, and if you go by water, there is a fear of storms. But escape from God’s wrath was almost impossible to escape from human violence, so most people traveled by water. Chandbali could be reached by ship – from Chandbali to Cuttack by steamer crossing many river canals.
He never wanted to travel by sea after hearing the terrible story of this voyage from his mother since childhood. The fact that his father was able to leave his ancestral home and seek his fortune amid such dangers in those days shows how strong his chest was. He was also rewarded for this adventure. By the time he was born, he had attained considerable prestige and held the top position in the legal profession of Orissa.
Who wrote the autobiographical book Bharat Pathik?
The city of Cuttack is not very big in size, the population is close to 20,000. But still, Cuttack is a major city in India for several specialties. From the time of the Hindu kings of Kalinga to the present day, the history of Cuttack can claim an uninterrupted status. In fact, Cuttack was the capital of Oriya and the world famous Jagannath Dev temple at Puri, Konark, Bhubaneswar and Udayagiri were the gift of Cuttack.
Moreover, Cuttack was not only the headquarters of the British Government of Orissa, but also the seat of many feudal lords of Orissa. All in all, the environment here was favorable for the healthy development of the child’s mind. The conveniences of both city and village life were available in Cuttack.
Although not wealthy, their families were considered to be in the congenial middle class. Therefore, he never had the experience of poverty, and the narrowness of the mental weaknesses that become inevitable in the pursuit of scarcity, greed, selfishness, etc., did not enter his mind. Again, the luxurious unaccountable habits that make the head go crazy were never indulged in at home. To be honest, his parents were a little too simplistic in their education.
