Society and Human Life:

Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra has given a very simple formula for a beautiful social system. He says – “The person who lives under one order leads the society.” Here the order of ideals is the only order because its purpose is only the existence and destiny of man. To be in the order of ideals means to be or to be in a perfect social system. Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra includes society only those relations which are embodied in an organization, which has a definite structure and a perfect organization. Therefore, relations which are not organized in a definite organization are excluded from the definition of society. However, this concept of society is incomplete because unorganized personal relations, which create a void through which organizations emerge, cannot be ignored in the study of social science.

Where was born Thakur Anukulchandra?

Sri Sri Thakur says that society exists only when the members know each other spiritually and have common interests or purposes. So, if two people travel in a train, their co-existence relationship of being in the same compartment at the same time and at the same place does not constitute society. But as soon as they start to know each other, the elements of society are formed (Anukulchandra, 1956, p. 143). Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra advocated an integrated philosophy of life which is a suitable blend of the philosophy of the prophets or religious preachers of the past and can be useful for the common man in the daily practical life situations of this modern civilized world.

Where in India did Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra establish the main Satsanga Ashram?

In 1906, at the age of eighteen, he got married, following the tradition of child marriage among Hindus. After completing his degree in Homeopathy from the National Medical School in Kolkata, he practiced medicine in his village for three years. During this time, he became increasingly attracted to religious life and established a “Satsang” ashram in Pabna, Bangladesh. Later, he shifted to Deoghar in Santal Parganas, Bihar (now in Jharkhand) in September 1946. Since then, Sri Sri Tagore’s “Satsang” ashram in Deoghar, a traditional pilgrimage site for Hindus, continued to flourish. Inspired by the spiritual inspiration of Tagore Anukulchandra, people accepted his discipleship in droves. Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Gulzarilal Nanda visited and praised the activities of this Satsang. Inspired by his ideals, lakhs of people took up his discipleship. About 5,000 Satsang Ashrams established by him have been established in the country and abroad.
