Early Life and Education
Galpa Samagra Vol-2 authored by Nabanita Deb Sen, was born on 13 January 1938. She was a prominent Bengali poet, writer and educationist. She passed B. A. from the university of Calcutta. and MA in literature from Jadavpur University and then from Harvard University. She was completed PHD from Indiana University (Bloomington).
Author Deb Sen studied and researched at Gokhale Memorial Girls, Lady Brabourne and Presidency College, Jadavpur, Harvard, Indiana (Bloomington) and Cambridge University. From 1975 to 2002, she was a professor of comparative literature at Jadavpur University and for some time the head of the department. She was also a visiting professor at some universities in the United States and Europe. Her contribution to various social, political, psychological, etc. subjects is undeniable.
Literary Work:
Her range of works includes poems, short stories, novels, literary discussions, essays, one-act plays, travelogues, humor and drama, translations and children’s literature. Her first book of poetry, Pratham Partyay, was published in 1959. After that, she wrote many other Poetry books, such as Swagata Debdoot, Ami Anupam, Nabanita, Swanirbachita Shreshtha Galpa etc.
Notable books of her writings are Galpa Samagra Vol-1 and 2, Bamabodhini, Nati Nabanita, Sita Theke Shuru, Karuna Tomar Kon Pathe, etc. Her first novel, Ami Anupam, was published in 1976. Her published books include poems, essays, romances, travelogues, and novels.
Notable Awards and Honors
In 1999, Nabanita Deb Sen received the Sahitya Akademi Award for her autobiographical romance ‘Nati Nabanita’. In 2000, she was awarded the Padma Shri. She has also received various awards and honors from Mahadevi Varma and the Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad and other institutions. Miss Deb Sen passed away on 7 November 2019 at the age of 81 at his home in Kolkata.
