He has also authored stories and novels under the pseudonym is Rajarshi. Gour Kishore Ghosh, a freedom fighter, journalist, was imprisoned in the Presidency prison in 1975.
He has endeavored to protect the journalists fundamental rights and freedom of expression. He became especially popular in the society for liberal thinking and democratic consciousness, and his literature sparked a stir among scholars of Bengal.
He was honored with the Ko Joy Uk Memorial Prize by South Korea government in 1976 and the Magsaysay Award in 1981 for journalism, literature and creative communication Arts. The same year he received the Maharashtra Government’s award.
He received the Anand Award in 1970 and the Bankim Award in 1982. The Hardayal Harmony Award and the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Award in 1993. The revolutionary novel Sagina Mahato was filmed, directed by the then film director Tapan Singh and created a stir in the peoples of Bengal.
Author Gour Kishore Ghosh was born on 22 June, 1923 in the village of Goalpur in Jessore district of undivided Bangladesh. He died on December 15, 2000 at the age of 77, but as humanitarian and journalist he remains immortal in his achievement.
