Rabindranath Maitra was a prominent journalist, philanthropist and pioneer writer of Bengal. ‘Manmoyi Girls’ School’ is a sensational drama and a masterpiece of his life. He was popularly known by the pseudonym Dibakar Sharma. He wrote under the pseudonyms Rabeya Khatun and Banda Chacher Ali. He was truthful and idealistic from childhood. His first and best short story Third Class was published in 1925 in Bijli magazine. This is one of his best short stories.

Rabindranath Maitra was born in 1896 in Rangpur, present day Bangladesh. His ancestral home was in Naduria of Faridpur. Father’s name is Priyanath Maitra. He has been a journalist for many years. He directly joined the Swadeshi politics. He obtained his BA degree from Bangavasi College, Calcutta. He could not appear in the M.A. examination due to joining the non-cooperation movement. He regularly wrote ‘Saturday letter’ in Anandabazar newspaper Bangashree.
