In 1907, Haraprasad Shastri discovered the manuscript of Charyapad, then Bengali literature touched the oldest history. But is Bengali a thousand-year-old ancient language? There is doubt about this. It could have been confirmed when Suniti Chattopadhyay’s ‘Origin and Development of the Bengali Language’ was published in 1926. But before all these epoch-making discoveries, the history of Bengali literature was written in ancient times.
